The entire inscription on the front fly leaf is "Rules for drawing up a Regiment, Posting the Officer's for the manual Exercise and Firings: with directions for the Evolutions, and other necessary instruction. Marine Barrack's May, 1765". Includes a drawing illustrating how a battalion should be drawn up for firings. Also includes instructions on the method of changing the front of the battalion, as practiced by the Plymouth Division of Marines, alterations in drawing up a regiment, and several extracts from Prussian military texts. The Plymouth Division probably refers to the marines who served as foot soldiers in the Royal Navy.
